Samsung has been making a lot of noise about fuel cells lately, developing a charger for cellphones it says will be available in 2009, and now rolling out a high-capacity battery for its Samsung Sense Q35 notebook. The company says the fuel cell will run that laptop for eight hours using DMFC (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) technology. This looks like an intriguing idea, but if you thought exploding lithium ion batteries were scary, wonder how this explosive methanol fuel cell idea will fare aboard aircraft? We're thinking the idea is not going to fly. Samsung didn't announce when this fuel cell power system would be available. Take a look at two more pics of the port replicator and the power unit itself: ![]() ![]() – Charlie White |
