Quick question about Pear DB

I'm fairly new to the whole database thing, but I was working on a connection to mysql, and I learned a bit about pear :: db. When I do the require once in php for the db file I come up with an error, I'm just curious if pear db is supported or not?

Our PHP compilations are done with "pear" on the config line, so pear IS installed on our servers by default.
